Kennedy Friday WROTE: SO LET THERE BE LIGHT--SENATOR MAGNUS ABE REHABILITATES ELECTRICITY IN 23 OGONI COMMUNITIES. The very first thing that God created in the account of creation as succinctly recorded in the book of Genesis is light. That was in the very beginning of the world. But even today, the place of light in human society is so fundamental and so essential that we can hardly do anything without it. So is it that good leaders everywhere in the world partake in enhancing Gods maiden creation by providing light for their own people in other to make their lives worth living. Thats exactly what Distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the upper chamber of Nigerias bi-cameral legislature is doing in parts of his constituency. At the last count, 23 Ogoni communities have been powered by the senators benevolence in this regard. In some of the communities, electricity infrastructures have been dilapidated for years, keeping majority of inhabitants groping in darkness, except for a few who could afford generators to power their homes. In others, electricity infrastructure was near absent, cutting them away from the national grid that makes the lives of people in other communities better. Yet, in others, extension of electric lines to cover the expansion of the communities and enabling transformers were direly needed. But all that has changed, courtesy of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, a representative of the people whose credo is putting the people first. Now, the people have light in their homes and for their businesses, reawakening a wave of entrepreneurship in the local beneficiary communities. The beneficiary communities of the Senators electricity rehabilitation gesture are scattered in the three divisions of Khana LGA of Nyokhana, KenKhana and Babbe Kingdoms of Ogoni land. In Ken-khana Kingdom, the following communities benefitted: 1. Luubara 2. Guru 3. Eweh 4. Pue 5. Duburo In Babbe Kingdom, three communities benefitted 6. Gwara 7. Sii 8. Zaakpon In Nyokhana Kingdom, 14 communities benefitted: 9. Kabangha 10. Luumene Bangha 11. Luegbo Beeri 12. Luere Beeri 13. Nyokuru 14. Bianu 15. Luuwa ( senator Lee Maebas community) 16. Nyogor Lueku 17. Lueku Bangha 18. Koro Bangha 19. Kere Bangha 20 Nyobe Bangha 21. Bionu Bangha 22. Korokoro Lueku Last week, a team of reporters and editors from BOLDLINE REPORTS led by Mr Promise Bebu, Freedom Kodam and Friday Kennedy Barileilo visited the three OGONI Kingdoms in Khana LGA to see things for themselves and also speak with inhabitants of the beneficiary communities. The visit was both exciting and revealing. In Gure community ( reputed to be Ogonis first community), the team was greeted with a loud blast of music emanating from the very first house we encountered. Electric power was on and a young lady was standing beside a huge refrigerator just outside her fathers house. We walked close to her and discovered that she was selling ice block as a business. How long have you been doing this business, Freedom Kodam asked. The girl looked up, revealing a bewitching and captivating smile, and quickly retorted, since electricity was restored in our community. And whats the patronage like, Promise Bebu followed up on the question. She smiled again, this time showing consuming vivacity, well, whenever there is light, I exhaust my stock of ice block. Every petty drink sellers from here and the nearby communities come to buy from me, because they know that they can always get ice block from me. There is less competition now, so the business is doing well so far. I only hope the positive signs continue. The young lady is a university undergraduate holidaying at home. The team moved deeper into the village and was led to the house of the Youth Leader of Gure, Mr. Barinua Saro Aanee, who received us with enthusiasm and showed eagerness to speak. The light you are seeing now, which my people are enjoying, Senator Magnus Abe made it possible, and we are very grateful to him. He rehabilitated electricity in this community after years of groping in darkness. To show our deep gratitude to the Senator, the community formally wrote him a letter of appreciation. Magnus Abe is the first leader to remember that he was voted for by the people. He has impacted our community. I urge other OGONI politicians to borrow from this fantastic example of Magnus Abe. He has our total support because he has earned it by remembering us. From Gure, the team moved into the adjoining community of Sii, where we met and spoke with one Dr. Frank Doba. He was in a local bar sharing drink with friends. I want to confirm that Senator Magnus Abe rehabilitated electricity in this community. For an agonizingly long time, we were without light electric power. Rainstorm devastated electrical installations in this community, and there was no light in this place for years. And because the community couldnt find the huge sum required to fix the problem, the hope of seeing electric power again was almost extinguished. However, we were happy when Senator Magnus Abe came to our aid. He did not only rehabilitate electricity here, but he also extended it to areas where we previously had no light. Much as we are very happy with him, we want to plead that there are a few areas in this community where the light has not reached, and he should do well to cover everywhere. One thing is sure, when you mention the name of Magnus Abe in this community, people are wired up. Our people appreciate and are ready to support him in whatever he does. This is what leadership is about. This is a leader that people should follow, he said. The next stop of the team was in Zaakpon, where we spoke to one Lucky Nwigbarato, who addressed himself as a member of the Royal Family. He was enjoying a cool breeze in his compound, and up there, we could see electric power in high voltage. This is noonday, so why dont you conserve electricity by switching-off your bulbs, Freedom Kodam queried. Mr Lucky Nwigbarato let out a big laugh, but when he saw that nothing appeared funny to the team, gave a humorous reply. You see, this is a village, and sometimes you just want to leave the bulbs on to get a feeling that you are in the township, he said. We heard that electricity in Zaakpon has been down for some time now, how come you are enjoying light now, Promise Bebu queried. Yes, the very light we are enjoying now in Zaakpon is done by Senator Magnus Abe. The Senator has made us to have trust in him and we will continue to follow him and people of his nature. No other senator have done this kind of thing before in my place, and so we believe that Abes representation is favorable to the people of Zaakpon, and the Ogoni people at large. This is the leader we will always follow, Mr. Lucky Nwigbarato said. Our investigation revealed that the electricity rehabilitation of the Senator is not part of his constituency projects in the district. Its simply a personal commitment of the senator to give back to the people who trusted and voted him in 2011 as their representative in the senate. Abes constituency projects in the senatorial are exclusively dedicated to education. They include model primary schools in Sogho in Khana LGA and another at Iwuoma Estate, Umuosaya Road, OYIGBO LGA ** this one is still under construction. The other constituency projects nominated by him include an administrative block in his Alma mater, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, and an Anatomy Lab at the University of Port Harcourt. Putting the people first is not an easy task, but Magnus Abe perseveres in doing that, drawing inspiration from Barack Obama who said that “The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” #AbeIsAble...
