He said that TLP was looking to the participation of educational institutions and students to play a major role in this second phase of outreach, deepening of knowledge base and initiating active local projects. 2. Kamal Hyat said that his many years of working as head of the Poverty Alleviation Program had given him a rich and varied experience of working with communities at the grass roots level. He emphasized the need for following standard operating procedures for projects including the role of trained motivators and community mobilizers, and the need for formally structured and registered organizations, to give credibility, especially for fund raising from donors. 3. Asif Jamil agreed with Kamal Hyat and offered the support of expatriate professionals working in the U.S. particularly in the New York area. 4. In the absence of Tayyab Ali, Syed M. Mehdi gave an update on the work in progress on the web site. 5. Imrana Tiwana gave an update on opening of Lahore Conservation Society’s bank account. She said that the extensive paper work required appears to be designed to discourage rather than to encourage organizations. However, she expected that the account may be operational in the next few days. 6. Arifa Muzammil and Mulghalarra Khan gave an update on the project for the restoration of the garden gate in Pind Mian Mir. They said that the only thing required now was funding of about two lacks (Rs. 200,000), and that they were currently working with the local community on this. They said they were working a number of ideas for fund raising, and their initial efforts had already yielded a contribution of Rs. 20,000; 7. Rabia Ezdi gave a presentation of her proposal for two kinds of conferences. The larger event, an alternate urban forum, which may follow the more conventional pattern of call for papers etc., and may take a year in planning. But the smaller event could be organized in much shorter time, based on documented stories relating to specific issues in a relatively small community, to highlight the actual perception of the affected people at the community level. This was supported with some additional suggestions from Dr. Siddiqi, Head of the Architecture department, Punjab University, and Dr. Shakeel Qureshi, Head of Architecture Department, Imperial University. She was asked to form a small working group to develop these ideas and other details of the smaller event; 8. Sarah Fatima, representing the community projects unit of the Department of Social Sciences at LUMS, supported the idea of going to the grass roots and street level to learn directly from communities about their own perceived needs and the local impact of projects. 9. Dr. Anis Siddiqi said that much valuable work had been done in the last two years by TLP, by way of collecting, analyzing and mapping of data. Now this should be published to bring it to a wider audience. He asked for at least a simple introductory brochure explaining the concept and vision of TLP. 10. Mulghalarra Khan said that she and Mehdi Shah had been working on just that, and provided copies of the document they had prepared. The effort was highly appreciated and many participants asked for more copies. 11. Mehmooda Maqsood , a recent graduate from NCA, said that her thesis work in Kot Lakhpat was completely in agreement with TLP approach, strategies and principles, and that she would like to participate on similar work with TLP. 12. The next Monthly Forum is scheduled for Wednesday the 16th April, 2014, at 5.30 pm at Dabistan e Iqbal, 2-S, Gulberg II. The agenda will be: Reporting on Progress on decisions taken by this forum.
