I am a neutered male brown and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old. I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 09/03/2014 from NY 10027, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. From the moment I saw his shining eyes I just knew Max was my kind of dog and watching him leap like a deer for the yard and freedom was the highlight of a long, tiring day - nothing says playful mischief is afoot like a bouncing doggie! Max may be a compact little chunker but he lives large in every possible way and if life were a competition hed be taking home all the prizes - Most Playful, Friendliest Neighbor, Outstanding Athlete, Lover Boy and of course, Best Looking! When youre with Max, playtime never ends and whether hes retrieving a ball, softly accepting treats or even lightly mouthing your arm, its all in the game and all meant with love. He walks quite well on leash, seems house trained and loves all dogs both large and small, every one we see is met with Maxs brightest smile and an enthusiastic tail-wagging welcome. When we pass a flock of pigeons Max doesnt miss a beat and just keeps on strolling, he has no beef with them and its much more exciting to go sniff a tree than chase after his feathered friends! His former owner did the responsible thing and had Max neutered but unfortunately it seems training wasnt high on her list of priorities so our little lovebug is still a bit of a work in progress and his new adoptive parents would do well to invest in some remedial behavior classes - Max would just love to add a Best Behaved trophy to his collection of accolades! A gentle boy at heart, Max adores snuggles, always listens when I speak, never guards his toys and has a mouth so soft I can pull a tennis ball from it with ease. He approached the assessor with a soft and wiggly body. He was active and constantly pulling away from the assessor, making him hard to position throughout the handling items of the assessment; however he maintained soft body language. Max bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test. He held onto the toy and rawhide with soft body language. He approached the helper dog with soft bod y language during the dog-to-dog interaction. Max displayed concerning behavior during the food bowl test. The behavior department feels that placement through a New Hope partner is the best option. Look: 3 Dog consistently pulls away from the assessor, rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2 Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2 Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 5 Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1 Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly.
