Last night in Rome: So, people tend to talk to me. I think its the hair.... Anyway, I wandered into an very small restaurant, which sat only about 20 people. Turns out the only other patron there was a man named Brian, who retired to Rome 2 years ago and was the Australian ambassador to the Vatican for many years. He knows the number 2 guy in the Vatican very well. The chef, (who is, BTW, a dead ringer for Andy Garcia), won the #2 award for cooking in Rome this year. He and his partner, the host of the restaurant, are together and ALSO know this #2 guy at the Vatican but have to be Uncle and Nephew to the #2 Vatican guy, even though this #2 Vatican guy is a good friend to all three men. Brian has suffered for the past 2 years with Parkinsons, but is doing really well. The obligatory Italian aunt is in the back cooking. The food was very good. I was there for 45 minutes and only Brian spoke English. The others, not a word...lots of hand signals and chopped up Italian on my part. Oh, and the chef had just had a blood pressure test 15 minutes before I got there, and the result was high, and he was going crazy with worry. Dont ask me the name of the restaurant. No clue. Story here? Ciao Roma.
