Last night there was a fire alarm at 11:30 PM. Yeah. I was able to grab my coat and make it out of the building, but soon after leaving the building I fell onto the pavement (gracefully). I was with friends, which helped a lot. I knew a bunch of people that were leaving from that particular door of my building, and they all checked in with me as they headed to the Community Center so they could stay warm inside until the fire alarm was over. It felt nice that I knew so many of the people who were walking by and that they understood what was going on. When the building had been cleared and the fire alarm ended, everyone went back inside... except a few friends and me. One of my friends wound up carrying me inside over his shoulder, with another friend guarding my head so it wouldnt accidentally get knocked on a doorframe or something. These friends brought me to my room, helped me get my coat and shoes off, put my blankets over me, and held my head up so I could have my night-time medication. Im so glad I have friends like this. I hate to imagine all of the other possible outcomes for last nights cataplexy... when I start worrying about it, I remember that I am not alone. I have friends nearby and afar that understand whats going on, whether theyre people with narcolepsy themselves or are someone familiar with cataplexy second-hand. I am not alone. I am thankful to have such a great support system (that includes anyone who read this post, too, by the way)!!
