Last night was a memorable night at the Harmarville Bladerunners as the IHC Hockey Staff took on the Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins Sled Hockey team in a sled hockey game. IHC Hockey wants to thank everyone who attended the game and supported the Mighty Penguins. The Mighty Penguins raised more money than expected and brought great awareness to the game of sled hockey that allows the physically disabled to play the great game of hockey. The Mighty Penguins beat IHC Hockey 9 to 2. IHC Hockeys two goals were scored after 2014 USA Paralympian Gold Medalist Dan McCoy jumped ship and joined the IHC team in the second period. IHC also traded the Croatian Sensation B.J. Zagorac to the Mighty Penguins for Kelsey DiClaudio who is also on the USA Womens National Development Team. Kelsey was the sensational one in that trade. The Mighty Penguins Josh Wirt and the Three Amigos Line of McCoy, Zach Harding, and Nevin Gray were too much for Team IHC Hockey to handle. Below, we have the pre-game introductions and IHC instructor Jordan Mardirossian getting his picture taken with 2014 Gold Medalist Dan McCoy and 2002 USA Paralympian Gold Medalist Josh Wirt. Mighty Penguins Director had these nice words to say about IHC Hockey: Second, thank you to Bob Gergerich and his crew for challenging us to a game! Without Bob willing to play us, there would be no fundraiser challenge. Bob has been such a loyal supporter and friend of the Mighty Penguins over the last 14 years. When we first started, we knew our kids wanted to play but didn’t know where to begin to teach them the game. Bob shows up and graciously volunteers to train our players. Over a dozen years later, he is still offering to help us in any way he can including donating a basket to our raffle and spending his Saturday evening with us. Bob understands the impact this sport has had and will continue to have on individuals with disabilities. His players are all great young men who get it as well. We are so grateful he found us.
