Last week we had Wills bi-annual Autism evaluation where it was suggested that he be classified as a high functioning Autistic savant. In other words they dont think he has the ability to apply his high intelligence in real life. Today we had another meeting with his school psychologist, his paediatrician and the head of the AU support. It was decided that Williams official diagnosis be moderate Aspergers. Like most aspies Will displays high intelligence in certain areas. For Will its Science and computers; he is also considered considerably delayed in all areas of comprehension. Language will always hinder him as it does most Autistics. Wills Paediatrician is fantastic but today he was very blunt. He told me that Wills intelligence isnt the issue; its whether him having Aspergers will allow him to ever be self sufficient. He doesnt see it for him in the near future. And so the heartbreaking saga of being a Mum of Autistic boys continues...
