Left us on this day (Oct. 12) in 1971: rocknroll & rockabilly pioneer Gene Vincent; Rolling Stone ranked his 1956 US #5 hit with The Blue Caps, Be-Bop-A-Lula, #102 on their list of The 500 Greatest Rock & Roll Songs of All Time; he followed up with influential & critically acclaimed singles Race With The Devil, Bluejean Bob, Lotta Lovin (1957 US #13) & Dance To The Bop (performed on The Ed Sullivan Show & reaching US #23 in 1958); Gene is considered one of rocks original bad boys, lionized by romanticists of past & present generations attracted to his primitive, sometimes savage style & indomitable spirit; Gene was the first inductee into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame upon its formation in 1997, & was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 1998; in 2012, his band, The Blue Caps, was retroactively inducted alongsid him into the Rock Hall by a special committee…R.I.P. It Up Gene…!
