Let’s take a moment to examine the extreme dishonesty in the following statements posted on Facebook this week by Mara Leveritt and Jason Baldwin. Mara Leveritt: “You know I dont like the Alford deal. But am I glad DJ&J are out of prison? You bet I am. So for me, this is about moving a bad case that is currently stalled forward. Nothing is moving through the courts right now. The legislature cant do anything. Only the governor can make a move. It would be symbolic--a sign of a states desire to correct a historic wrong. And it would be significant--a good governors parting suggestion that more needs to be done.” Mara Leveritt quoting Jason Baldwin: “I want what all of us have wanted: someone with the authority to do so to reopen the case and declare once and for all that the murders of Michael Moore, Christopher Byers and Steve Branch remain unsolved; to acknowledge that Damien Echols, Jessie Lloyd Misskelley Jr. and Charles Jason Baldwin have suffered a grave injustice, as we all have; and to grant Remedy.” – Jason Baldwin Let’s keep ‘em honest here. What Leveritt and Baldwin both well know but fail to mention is the CASE WAS REOPENED IN 2011!!! We will keep saying this until we are blue in the face. The case was reopened in 2011 when the Arkansas Supreme Court granted the WM3 an evidentiary hearing to present all the “new evidence” they claimed to have. You know - turtle bites, testimony from convicted felons, hairs that match millions of people. All the useless nonsense they presented in the movie West of Memphis. Instead of presenting their “evidence,” proving their “innocence,” and gaining EXONERATION – the WM3 pled guilty using an Alford Plea. It was their idea. Their own attorneys presented that scheme to the Attorney General and the prosecutor. Why? BECAUSE THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THEY WERE INNOCENT OR THAT ANYONE ELSE COMMITTED THE CRIME. Furthermore, the case is not closed. The prosecutor has said he would welcome evidence of innocence or evidence someone committed the crime from the WM3 at any time. The prosecutor has repeatedly said his door is open to new evidence from the WM3 and their attorneys. They were released in August 2011. It is now October 2014. Nothing has been presented to the prosecutor that has caused him to charge anyone else with the murders. The only people with any ability to reopen the case are the WM3 and their attorneys. For Leveritt and Baldwin to suggest that its job of the legislature or the governor to “exonerate” the WM3 is just beyond dishonest. Because of the guilty plea, the ball is in the court of the WM3 to get out there, use the MILLIONS they have collected over the years in donations (where did all that go?), and find “the real killer.” So far they have FAILED to do that. Only Mara Leveritt wants to talk about pardons, because talking nonsense about the case helps her sell more of her biased books. Accepting a pardon would mean the governor would grant the WM3 “forgiveness” for their crime. It’s simply another admission of their guilt. Surely the WM3 don’t really want that! Have the WM3 even applied for a pardon? They would have to submit paperwork to the Arkansas Parole Board to do so. Where is the proof the WM3 have even applied for a pardon? Leveritt and Baldwin are just using this pardon nonsense to continue to keep the case in the spotlight so they can continue to make money from it and in hopes the clueless people of the world will continue to buy the myth that the WM3 are innocent, even though they were convicted AND pled guilty.
