Locavores Feast and Six Slocan Valley Minutes at the Vallican Whole SATURDAY JANUARY 24! Doors open at 5, dinner is at 6, SSVM starts around 7:30. What better cure for the winter blahs than the Winter Locavores Feast and Six Slocan Valley Minutes (SSVM)? Come with a generous dish prepared with as many local ingredients as possible and break bread with your friends, neighbours and meet new people in the community. After dinner, Six Slocan Valley Minutes is where we see all kinds of skills and talents, some totally unexpected. As democratic as performance art can get, anyone is encouraged,to come up on stage and do just about anything not illegal, immoral or disgusting. You can sign up that night. Previous acts have ranged from chainsaw repair and food preparation to the usual song and dance and expostulation. Come up with something new, and everyone will love you for it. Local thespian Martina Avis will emcee and infuse the event with her own charm. And we have salted the SSVM with performances like Dick Canning teaching us bird calls, and of course Gary will be back with the hook eager to yark off the stage, any performer who dares go past six minutes ! (The Hook is arguably the most popular act). The evening will also host the RED ROOF FUNDRAISER & a SILENT AUCTION of fabulous localRed Roof fundraiser and a silent auction of fabulous local art, services and goods. Heres a small sampling and more are being added every day. ART: Cindy Moser, Rabia, Bubzee, sculptures, jewelry, pottery and more, BODYWORK & SPORTS: massages, fitness classes by Helen Kissinger, apothecary, singing lessons by Sophia Gray, downhill skis and ski-boots GARDENING AND FOOD: gift baskets, plants from Against the Wind Nursery, WK Permaculture Coop Homesteading workshop admissions, Restaurant meals, groceries AUTO & BUILDING SERVICES: car repair , electrician services, The building is undergoing a complete energy refit, thanks to the RDCKs Community Works fund, and the CBT. We just need to raise a bit more money to put new red shingles on the roof and bring The Whole back to her 1970s vibrancy. The Heritage Credit Union has donated $2,500, and challenges the community to match these funds during this event. So for $20 you can also purchase a new shingle for the red roof, and get your name up on our fundraising banner for many years to come Admission is a generous potluck item. If you are infirm or incapable of making a potluck item, then a generous donation will do nicely as well :)
