Louisiana Gov. W.C.C. Claiborne blamed the Lafittes for the death - TopicsExpress

Louisiana Gov. W.C.C. Claiborne blamed the Lafittes for the death of revenue inspector John Stout (described in our last post), either because some of the customs officials later identified Jean and Pierre among the smugglers or because the Lafittes were usually connected to any smuggling in the area. Pierre Lafitte was arrested in July 1814; among the charges were Stout’s murder. Thanks to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund for alerting us to John Stout’s story and for honoring men and women who have died in the line of duty. ow.ly/sAq3k
