~Luke 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread. I like the way - TopicsExpress

~Luke 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread. I like the way this verse is phrased in the Book of Luke. As you know, Luke was a physician and his occupation influenced the way he penned what the Holy Spirit inspired him to pen. For example, the Book of Luke is the only Gospel which speaks of the soldier whose ear was cut off by Peter and healed by Jesus (Luke 22:50-51). John spoke of the ear being cut off but not of the healing. Luke noted the healing in his Gospel, in my opinion, because this appealed to his physician’s background. :-) With that said, back to today’s verse. As a physician, Luke knew how important it was for a person to feed his body daily – day by day. Luke 11:3 has a wonderful “double emphasis” – “Give us day by day our daily bread.” This teaches me how important it is for me to nourish my body daily or I will die. It is the same, spiritually speaking. If you do not renew yourself daily with the Bread of Life, the Word of God, you will find yourself spiritually anorexic, Mom and wife. Just as it is your responsibility to pick up food with your hand and put it into your mouth, so it is important for you to pick up your Bible, read it and feed it to your spirit. You can read it all you want but if you do not feed it to your spirit by applying it to your life, you are no better than an anorexic person who eats and regurgitates. I know this sounds disgusting but compare it to your spiritual life. Is this what you do? If you are not healthy, you’re of no earthly good to your husband or your children. If you’re not spiritually healthy, how can you teach your children? How can you be a good helpmeet to your husband? Each morning should be a new “re-dedication” to your Lord to serve Him as best you can and with His Spirit’s guidance.
