MANY FAMILIES EFFECTED BY ALZHEIMERS Many in St. James Parish and beyond have watched a family member slowly slip away due to Alzheimers. To see someone you love forget themselves and forget everything around them, while slowly degenerating, is a dark place. Famous 70s musician, Glenn Campbell, was diagnosed in 2011 and wanted to record one last song to tell the story before he could do so no longer. Its heart wrenching, powerful, and so true for so many here in our local communities. If you are caring for a loved one with this disease or need help yourself, St. James Parish has help for you, including a Respite Center so caregivers can take some time off. The Elderly Program actually provides a full range of services for senior citizens ages 60 and over including: four senior centers, home-bound meals, outreach and information, referrals, recreation, telephoning/visiting the home-bound, caregiver/respite, visiting those in the local nursing home and legal aid.
