MDC statement to the press Harare, 13 December 2014 The MDC national council met in Harare to discuss all outstanding business of the party’s 4th Congress held in Harare from the 29th October to November 1, 2014. The council, sitting as Congress in line with the party constitution, endorsed the Congress resolutions and finalized the constitution of party organs. The President announced the names of 15 people he is mandated to nominate into the national executive. The 15 are: 1. Mr Gideon Shoko 2. Hon Sibusisiwe Masara 3. Hon Sithembile Mhlotshwa 4. Hon Eddie Cross 5. Hon Sesil Zvidzai 6. Ms Memory Mbondia 7. Hon Murisi Zvizvai 8. Hon Nelson Chamisa 9. Hon Elias Mudzuri 10. Mr Clifford Hlatshwayo 11. Mr Jameson Timba 12. Mr Webba Chinyadza 13. Mr Job Sikhala 14. Ben Chiondengwa 15. Mr Denis Mudzingwa Ten of the party’s 12 provinces nominated three people each into the national executive and the following people were deployed by the provinces into the executive: 1. Pauline Mpariwa The party’s organs are now fully constituted and the party is ready to execute its historical mandate to bring change and democracy in the country. Council noted the crisis facing the people of Zimbabwe and reaffirmed that the crisis stems from the crisis of legitimacy arising from the stolen election of July, 2013. With a fractured party in government whose top priority is an unending circus of succession battles, the plight of the ordinary Zimbabwean will worsen with Zanu PF in the seat of government. There is no respite for ordinary Zimbabweans if the crisis of legitimacy, which is at the centre of the national challenges, is not immediately addressed. Only a fresh election, council noted, will put in place a legitimate government able to transact the affairs of the State and to bring back lost confidence in the economy. With a successful congress now behind us, the party is now concentrating on uniting the people, stabilizing the party and putting in place strategies to ensure that we win the next election. We are definitely poised to win the next election, whenever they are going to be held.
