Not long ago, my son and I were driving back from a journey in the northern green and it was quite late and in the dark of the evening. When we were driving through the middle of Utah when a streak of light came across the horizon. A meteorite we were certain had crossed our path. Not just any meteorite but one of magnificent proportion, in depth, time, and meaning. It streaked a golden tail for about 8 to 9 seconds. Most other meteorites are short lived in the sky, 1 to 2 seconds at best and thats why we knew this one was different. Ive seen hundreds of meteorites streak across the Utah skies and almost had white tails of dramatic fire. Except for one that had a white and green tail that passed over area 51 in Nevada, at least it was in that direction as we were looking from Gunlock Utah. When I studied metallurgy in the Navy, one way to identify metal compound was to take a sample of metal and place it on a grinding wheel in a lab or shop and we would observe and film the color, streak, and pattern of the sparks as they projected from the grinding wheel. That was called a spark test and it gave a decent suggestion of the carbon or nickel content in that metal. So in saying all of this, the meteorite that my son and I witnessed was probably of high content iron and would have made a heck of a dent somewhere. And given the 8 to 9 seconds of travel would have meant that it was fairly large. It went from the west into the east and my guess it landed into the Atlantic Ocean. My son and I looked at each other and we both knew that somehow it was a gift to see that meteorite and probably from Erik as that was the same day that I received an older penny from McDonalds. Now this morning I can put that experience into my route as things become clearer as to why I am even writing this. But I will always question the theory of the banging of several rocks from the sky can create any life form at all. Thats another story.
