Macbook Pro Logicboard Repair UPDATE. Remember a couple of weeks ago I wrote that my MBPs graphics card had a meltdown and after consulting with an Apple Repair center here, I was advised to have the whole logicboard replaced to the tune of P30K++. What made it bad for me was that the warranty for the repaired/refurbished board would just be 3 months - an Apple SOP. It was the easiest course of action to save my Mac, but the 3 month warranty was a gamble. I seriously considered getting a new MBP but at 115K+ bnew, it wasnt a good option. The service center and Jo Avila, gave me the Apple customer care 1-800 number and they both advised me to just air out the issue with Apple (Singapore) and see where it goes. Last night, I did call the 1-800 number from my moms landline (apparently 1-800s dont work from mobiles). I spoke with an Australian CSR named Allan Ross. I explained to him my situation and made key important points, like it was my 2nd MBP, that the damage wasnt user induced but a parts failure (on normal usage), and that the MBP was critical to my job as a photographer and as an educator (i blatantly plagiarized Jo Avilas own line). After some more questions and information giving, Allan placed me on hold while he conferred with his colleagues. After a long wait, Allan told me that as much as it saddens him to inform me, he couldnt do anything for my MBP as the warranty had run out (past 3 years) and I did not (what were you thinking??) sign up for Apple Care. I was disappointed but I told him my thanks, at least for hearing me out, and that I perfectly understood Apples response. Allan repeatedly told me he felt bad that he couldnt give a positive response to my service inquiry. This morning, Allan called me up again and - with genuine joy in his voice - that after further discussions with his boss, Apple has decided that they will shoulder the replacement of my MBPs logicboard free of charge and all I have to pay for would be the labor fees from whatever Mac service center I would have it repaired. Whoa! Talk about customer satisfaction! I thanked Allan profusely and even asked him if my faux Australian accent was any good. He replied that it was awful but that I seemed to know more words than he did hahaha. So there, what a company huh? I will bring my MBP to the service center tomorrow and revive it with a brand new refurbished (i know its oxmoronic) board free courtesy of Apple (Singapore). Thank you Apple. Thank you Allan Ross. Thank you Jo Avila (for egging me to call the service center.)
