Make yourself a bowl of popcorn cuz this is a long story worth reading!!! Dead battery again yesterday! And, in the typical Pine Island spirit, my neighbor Mel came and gave me a jump start and refused to take any money.. I had already taken the car in to be checked a couple weeks ago when my car wouldnt start but two places said my six-year battery was still fine>>? So this time I went to Pep Boys ..Heres what happened... I wanted an oil change too.. They charge only 19.99 for an oil change that includes tire rotation.. thats cheap!! I also needed one windshield wiper blade.. They quoted $12.99 and free installation.. I told the guy that Bosch is my favorite brand of everything and he said I could get Bosch but its 24.99 each so I passed on that and went for the other brand. Seeing my slight disappointment, he goes on line and tells me that he found a coupon and I could get TWO Bosch blades for only 14.99 and free installation!! Whoo Hooo!! Sold!! .Ok.. so back to the battery.... Pep Boys checked it and said its shot...but unfortunately although its still under warranty Pep Boys does not carry that brand.. (Interstate) and understandably cant warranty brands that they dont carry. Oh man.. So I knew this would be a hassle... But the manager went on line.. looked up Interstates nearest location and found one on Metro.. He tells the mechanic to remove my battery and said Come on then put it in his car and said lets take a ride there and see what theyll do for you..!!! ! WHAT?? ? Take me there to a competitor?? We walked in to Interstate and they dont even say hello....They greeted us with a twisted look and duh wha du ya want..!! okaaaaaaay ( and twisted look right back at cha.)......... After checking the date on the battery they offered to pro rate it and give me a new one for $95.00 that has only a two year warranty.. hmmm... mine was a six year... not really a great deal but still cheaper than if I had no warranty... Meanwhile the Pep Boys guy says... Nah.... thats okay..Lets go back to the store and Ill do something better for you... Well price match this and beat it by five percent !!! So we go back to Pep Boys.. The guy finds me a Bosch ( my favorite brand of everything).. but its $140.. and has a longer warranty than the Interstate brand.... He goes on line ( and tells me to sit in the waiting room while he searches for deals).. !! He comes and gets me after a few minutes and said he found a 25% off coupon!! So first he price matches it down to $95., then beats it by five percent... THEN takes 25% off the whole thing.. but wait .. theres more!!! So that guy leaves and goes to lunch.. By now my oil change is done and the new battery is in my car... When I go to pay the service manager says.. Oh.. I have a $15.00 rebate from Bosch!!! wow.. so price match, beat by five percent, then 25 % off, then a 15.00 rebate!!! You have go to be kidding!!! Then, I just happened to say how I kinda hate those mail in rebates cuz I always forget to mail them in and forget to keep track of them etc.. This guy says.. hmmm....Lemme see what I can do here... Well he finagles around with the register and next thing ya know he takes off the $15. so I dont have to do a mail in!!!! I just wanted to share this incredible experience with all of you.. If more places would care about their customers to even half of this level, theyd get a lot more people like me posting things like this.....
