Man arrested after ‘eating heart of love rival with knife and fork’ Gugulethu, on the outskirts of Cape Town, is one of South Africa’s most violent neighbourhoods.. Police in one of South Africa’s most violent neighbourhoods arrested a man on suspicion of murdering a love rival and carving out his heart, then eating it with a knife and fork, officials said today. Stunned residents in Gugulethu, on the outskirts of Cape Town, said they found the suspect “dripping with blood” in his lover’s home and muttering “I am the King”. Officers and neighbours are now receiving counselling because what they saw was so disturbing, police said. “On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean national, busy eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork,” said Frederick van Wyk, a police spokesman. Nomonde Soloshe, the woman at the centre of the love triangle, said she was living with her lover, Mbuyiselo Manona, when her ex-boyfriend arrived at their home and gave her some money to go and buy liquor. By the time she came back, at around 10pm on Tuesday, she found Mr Manona, 62, had been stabbed. “The victim had been stabbed on the left side of his chest and in his neck, and had a bite mark on the right side of his face,” Captain van Wyk added. A lodger, who rented a room at the back of Ms Soloshe’s house, said the suspect had been hired to install windows at the house, which was in a relatively affluent part of the township. Local newspapers reported that this is the second time a lover of Ms Soloshe has been murdered. She was married to Camps Bay businessman Bhekizulu Zulu, who started divorce proceedings and changed his will to exclude her after he discovered that she was having an affair in April 1996, the Cape Times reported. On June 2, 1996 he was shot twice in the head by her then-lover Xolani Hobongwane – a day before he was scheduled to sign his new will. Mr Zulu’s body was found stuffed in the boot of his car, which was parked at Cape Town International Airport, two days after his murder. Ms Soloshe was never implicated in the murder.
