Amidst much objection from several section of the society including students of the Ramlal Higher Secondary School, the state government has converted it to an all girls’ higher secondary school. As per order No. 19 of 2013 issued by H. Mathang, Deputy Secretary (Edn/S), government of Manipur; Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School has been converted to Ram Lal Paul Girls’ Higher Secondary School with immediate effect. With regard to the order, Education Minister M. Okendra Singh said that the government has taken up the step inorder to incorporate demands of girl students for education and said all girl students who will be admitted at the newly converted Ram Lal Paul Girls’ Hr. Sec. School have secured above 61% of marks and most of the teachers at the school are lady teachers. In the previous session, a large number of students were admitted in TG Hr. Sec. School and it caused inconveniences to the school regarding provision of infrastructures and laboratory facilities, he said. This year too, over 2000 students applied for admission but only 750 students will be admitted in the school. When asked where the present boy students of the Ramlal Paul Hr Sc school will be accommodated, Education Minister, M Okendro said that as they are all boys, students of lower classes will be transferred to nearby schools whereas students of classes XI and XII will be accommodated at Johnston Hr. Sec. School. . Demanding arrest of the culprits who allegedly abducted and raped a girl who went to get admission in a college at Yairipok under Thoubal district, JAC formed in connection with the rape case has warned of launching different agitations from Monday. Addressing media persons at Orient Hotel, Hatta yesterday, Convenor of the JAC Ayub Kori announced that if the concerned authority fails to convert the demands into action by Sunday then agitations will be launched from the next day. The resolution to agitate was taken during a public meeting organised by the JAC at the campus of Kangla Ukok Memorial English School, Yairipok Changamdabi yesterday, he added and condemned the Thoubal district police for injuring at least 45 people including students by firing tear gas cells and mob bombs on their way to submit memorandum regarding the case. . The state cabinet has yesterday resolved to acquire the Manipur Royal Palace and its surrounding area covering around 12-13 acres, said government spokesperson and state Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro yesterday evening. The state cabinet was held yesterday afternoon starting from 3 pm presided by the state Chief Minister. Addressing a press conference at his office chamber at the Secretariat North Block soon after the end of the cabinet meeting, the government spokesperson said that the decision was taken as part of the government’s policy for preservation of the Royal Palace which is a landmark structure of the erstwhile Manipuri kingdom. The cabinet decision was not taken in disrespect of the people of the state or the King, he said. Earlier, the state cabinet in 2006 had also tried to acquire the Royal Palace and its surrounding area covering around 7.179 acres, the Minister said. . Poultry farms in the state are slowly dying due to the control by poultry farms from outside the state, said H Kulachandra, general secretary, All Manipur Poultry Farmers & Traders Association in a press conference yesterday. Speaking to media persons he said the condition of the local poultry farming is getting worse which has adversely affected the poultry farmers. The price of the chicken in Manipur has increased like never before and is now sold at the rate of Rs 250 to 300 per kilogram even as its availability is not sufficient. The main cause for this particular problem is due to the control of the poultry market by the outside farms, he said. This situation is understood by all but the concerned government authority, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry have failed to control the situation by taking prompt official action in this regard, he said. . A team of Narcotics and Affairs of the Border (NAB) reportedly arrested a wing commander of the Kuki National Army, Chasad Camp, Ukhrul district along with another cadre with a large sum of money while coming towards Imphal at Yaingangpokpi area. According to reliable police sources, the arrested persons have been identified as s/s wing commander of Kuki National Army (KNA), Chasad camp Letkhosei Haokip (37), son of Holkhozang Haokip of Molnoi village in Chandel and Paokhulun Haokip (25), son of Mangkhohao Haokip of Aimol village. They were arrested yesterday afternoon by the NAB team along with one 9mm Pistol and a large sum of money near Yaingangpokpi police station while the two were moving in a Maruti Gypsy toward Imphal from Ukhrul. The two arrested KNA cadres were later handed over to Lamlai police station. According to unconfirmed sources, the seized amount is above nine lakhs. Mention may be made that the KNA is a signatory of the Suspension of Order with both the state and central governments. . The state MPs and MLAs of the Congress party will donate their one month salary to Uttarakhand. All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation (AMMSO) has threatened to launch different forms of agitation if teenager Yumkhaibam Salman is not released from police custody at the earliest. In a press conference held at its Hatta Minuthong office, AMMSO President Md Farid condemned arrest and detention of 17-year-old Salman of Hiyangthang Tara Hei Konjen Chinga Awang Leikai by a security team, who spoke Hindi and Manipuri at around 11 pm of June 20. He said that Salman’s arrest is suspected to be a fall- out of enmity with a person from his own locality over a past scuffle. People also spend lots of money on buying fruits and vegetables from other states. The economy of the State cannot be improved with its small annual budget returned to other states while buying the day-to-day commodities, the Minister noted. During an inspection in and around Thangal Bazaar and Paona Bazaar areas, officials of Imphal Electrical Division No-1 have found a pre-paid meter consumer namely Samsung Smartphone c/o Vishal Das (20), s/o Virun Das consumer No. 10-L-75, Meter No. M1P13171 illegally by-passing his meter with another person. An FIR has been filed at the City Police in connection with bypassing of the pre-paid metre. Informing this in a statement, T Ibochouba Singh, Executive Engineer of the Division has appealed to all the pre-paid meter and electric consumers not to indulge in such illegal activities of stealing power supply.
