Mary Beaumont (1957-2014) Just her name conjures the delicate nature she emanated. Though she had clear, steadfast convictions and principles about art and education, females in the art arena and the welfare of animals - she always presented herself in a consistent, steady manner. There was something very comforting and stable about Mary in the way she listened and in the way she spoke. A true teacher, Mary taught at every opportunity - A casual conversation about exploration easily led to a discussion on the importance of archival materials or how best to represent yourself in your work. When we heard the news that Mary had moved on to the next studio (to reunite with her parents and former pets), we all immediately shared stories of her impact on our lives. When considering how she may have received this kind of news herself -about a colleague- it was comforting to imagine her even, thoughtful reply -simplistic, pointed and compassionate- Quiet. It was a pleasure having Mary teach for so many years at CCAA. She will be sorely missed. Her name will not soon recede from our minds and conversations. Please feel free to email your own story about Mary to my email chescoarts@gmail. We will compile the stories and make them available either in print or via the web - probably both. Peace -Angela
