May 9, 2014 marks the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Cloyd’s Mountain and the mortal wounding of Captain Christopher S. Cleburne. The Pulaski County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee will be hosting a special dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 10:00 am at Cleburne’s Wayside (VA 100/Cleburne Blvd) Dublin, Virginia. Members of the Captain Milton Hall Harmon Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy will be dedicating a new Cloyd’s Farm Plaque during the ceremony. The original plaque was dedicated in 1939 during Pulaski County’s Centennial Celebration. The marker was originally located near the battle site of Cloyd’s Farm, but was moved to Cleburne’s Wayside when the highway was widened. The United Daughters of the Confederacy McComas Chapter #66 and the Sons of Confederate Veterans Flat Top Copperheads will place and dedicate the Southern Cross of Honor on the grave of Captain Christopher S. Cleburne. During the ceremony there will be many UDC Chapters and SCV Camps from Virginia and surrounding states that will present and lay wreaths on the grave of Captain Christopher Cleburne. Members of the Captain Hamilton D. Wade Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy and Giles Artillery will also be participating in this special dedication ceremony. Make plans to join us for this historic event.
