Maybe this is a function of social media. Maybe this has always been the case by social media has amplified the effect. Maybe social media has simply made me more aware of it.... But I am getting so bloody annoyed by people on the left mindlessly agreeing with things that denigrate the Other Side, things that are readily disproven and readily falsified by a little googling, and just nodding along with because it fits in with their expectations and biases and sense of grievance. I am a green and a leftie because (a) I have a fundamental sense of egalitarianism, which might be something to do with my amygdala and sundry other brain structures, and (b) because I respect evidence and science. Over the years (and I have a few under my belt) I have become very used to conservative folk using logical fallacies and cherry-picking evidence to rationalise what is essentially a predisposition to a need for authoritarianism, hierarchical power structures and a visceral, fear-based response to threats and difference. When I see the same lack of reason and loose treatment of the facts on the progressive side, it shocks me, but maybe it shouldnt. Anyway, I am feeling increasingly alienated by many on the online left. I hate lazy thinking and I hate group-think and feel the need to dissociate myself from bilge.
