Media Release January 3, 2015 Hayden, ID – On January 3, 2015 at about 1:15 pm, Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 2300 block of E. Hayden Lake Road, east of the city of Hayden for a reported single vehicle injury crash. Once on scene, deputies found a 79 year old female had parked her 2000 Ford Excursion at her house and it was either not in park or started to slide backward as she exited the driver’s door. A 17 year old male that works for the female saw the vehicle going backward with the female stuck behind the door. He attempted to assist her, but the vehicle swept both of them across the roadway and over the embankment on the opposite side of the road, pinning them both under the door. The male was able to free himself and suffered minor injury. A passerby saw the crashed vehicle and dialed 911. The elderly female required extrication from Northern Lakes Fire Department. She was transported to Kootenai Health with significant injuries and possible hypothermia. The male was also transported to Kootenai Health, where he was treated and released.
