Media Release from the Tonga High Commission Office, Canberra. On Friday 24 January 2014,Her Royal Highness, Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku’aho, High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Tonga to Australia graciously accepted a Diplomatic Note from the Honourable Baron Divavesi Waqa MP, the President of the Republic of Nauru, to formalise the generous donation of $25,000 (Australia Dollars) from the Government and the people of Nauru towards the recovery efforts following the devastations caused by cyclone Ian. The esteemed President expressed his heartfelt sympathy and sorrow towards the loss of life and livelihood; and conveyed through the Princess his measure of support towards His Majesty King Tupou VI and the people of the Kingdom of Tonga. A short ceremony was held at the High Commission of Tonga in Canberra following a courtesy call on The Princess by 2 Government Ministers from the Republic; namely Hon David Adeang MP (Minister for Finance) and Hon Charmaine Scotty MP (Minister for Education). The Ministers expressed their country’s token of friendship and solidarity towards the Kingdom. Her Royal Highness reciprocated and expressed gratitude and gratefulness on behalf of His Majesty the King and the Government and the people of Tonga as Nauru’s offer of assistance symbolises the friendship and cordial cooperation between the two island countries. The Government of the Republic of Nauru transmitted their generous donation directly to the designated Relief Account of the Government of Tonga administered by Ministry of Finance and National Planning.
