Melbourne Gangster WILLIAM BUCK - Bourke Street Rats - To 1906 William was a member of the feared Bourke Street Rats. Aside from laneway muggings, this gang specialised in picking pockets and acted as ‘fancy men’ for the female tenants of the low-class brothels of Little Lonsdale Street. Amongst their ranks were some of Melbourne’s most violent men, under the control of Squizzy Taylor. He was blind due to a fight with a constable J. Luke when smashing a bottle on the policeman head and a splinter of glass flew into his eye. William died in Royal Lane of Bourke St, when timber fell from a truck on the 18th of March 1906.
