Melissa update 1/11/14 Melissa is home, resting, pain free, and recovering from her most recent medical crises, cardiomyopathy. Importantly, Melissa is comfortable, relaxing, and surrounded by people who love her. Our experience at Fresno Community Regional Medical Center was superb. Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and therapists (Physical and Occupational) who made Melissas diagnosis and treatment swift and efficient. I am so happy that one of Melissas doctors, Dr. Thomas Evans was able to graduate her to a new, smaller trach. As a result, I have gotten to listen to Melissa talk two nights in a row (for some reason she seems to have her sleep cycle flip flopped). She has repeatedly said, I want... but gets stuck finding the word she wants. However, she did tells that she was thirsty last night and we were able to help her and see her smile. While Melissa was still in the hospital, Wests pediatrician came by, Dr. Amy Evans (Dr. T. Evanss wife), and talked to Melissa about how West was doing. Melissa, although heavily sedated with pain medications, was able to smile, wake up, look at Dr. Evans, and listen to how West was doing. She also mobilized her thumbs up to communicate. It was a very touching moment for all of us. Bellow are pictures from the past week. I am especially grateful for the communication socks we were sent. Ingenious! West also had his first cookie. In honor of his Grandpa Gary (Lande), he partook of a Biscotti, his grandpa Garys favorite cookie. I also am getting ready for my return to full duty at the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office. In a small, private ceremony, our Chief Deputy of Operations presented another deputy, Brian Erbe, and I with medals for injuries we sustained while taking suspects into custody. With gratitude, Brian (Melissas Husband and Wests Dad)
