Mens Reserve Grade & B Grade Update The battle between the two previous leaders in the Western Bay of Plenty Reserve Grade cricket competition, was taken out by Sangha (Raavi) when they beat Katikati by just six runs on Saturday (16 November 2013). The Sangha first team took first use of the batting strip and set a good sized target when they were dismissed for 234. GS Gargan increased his total in the Reserve Grade batting stakes with a solid 72. The best of the Katikati bowlers was Matt Earl taking 3/18. The game went down to the wire, with the Sangha bowlers removing Katikati just six runs short of victory. Matt Harrison belted 74 runs for Katikati with Gurman Singh grabbing four wickets for the winners. Another thriller where the bowlers took charge, took place in the match-up between competition leaders Mount Maunganui and Tauranga Boys College. Tauranga Boys were dismissed for what looked to be a modest 108, with Mount Maunganui eventually getting home with just two wickets to spare. Greerton cruised home in their encounter with Cadets. The Greerton bowlers removed the home side for side just 89 then galloped to victory without the loss of a wicket. Paul Inglis (44no) and Pip Thickpenny (37no) took charge to give the visitors a ten wicket win. Te Puke moved up the standing with a solid win over cellar dwellers Sangha (Anna). The Te Puke second team posted 195 all out and then bundled the Sangha team out for 99, to claim the victory. Matt Dwight took five wickets at a cost of 23 runs. In B Grade action, defending title holders Grasshoppers cemented second place with a win against Mount Maunganui Masters. The Hoppers posted 180 all out, then bowled out the Mount side for 133 to claim the victory. Former premier batsmen Blair Parlane top scored with 42 for the Mount Masters, with Ben Goodall taking four wickets for the Hoppers. Katikati, retained their unbeaten start to the second echelon season with a solid victory against Albion. Katikati reached 251/9 in their forty overs with Louis Darvill top scoring with a neat half century. Matt Guptill took a five wicket bag as Albion were removed for 142 to cement Katikati’s place at the top of the standings. Cadets were dismissed for 203 by Greerton and went on to take the win points on offer when they bowled their opponents out for 183 to grab a relatively close encounter.
