Mitochondria with in a cell use oxygen for energy,but can also function in Low oxygen environment when this happens they turn to sugars for that energy and mitochondria down regulation occurs. This in short is Otto Warburg Nobel prize wining hypothesis,but now proven fact.on how cancer forms... So low circulation, low oxygenation ie smoking.lack of exercise,low oxygen delivering foods.risk factors go up.
