Moments of Christmas Beauty: Last night was the final installment - TopicsExpress

Moments of Christmas Beauty: Last night was the final installment of the stretch of Christmas 2014. I was once again headed home to my sweet remaining kitty companion. The moon suspended in the night sky was of nursery rhyme specs......that large open bowl that a cow might jump over anytime. Nana was done. Nana was content. Lots of adorable photos captured, moments savored. My second annual sleepover lived up to the heightened expectations, just as special and unique unto itself. I would say Santa was noticeably more organized this year in that assemblage and wrapping were minimal and comfortably done by midnight with the sugar plums sleeping and that snack left for the big guy consumed with crumbs for evidence. Jack had logically concluded that Howie, the barker and vigilant one of the two residing pugs, should be confined to the office, also the Lego Mecca of this home, in order to prevent hindering any reindeer and red clothed, white bearded, toy bearing visitor. Sarah and I were in pajamas that were comparable, though not identical. Red solid tops and printed polar fleece bottoms, hers with penguins, mine with cardinals. I had actually forgotten my sleepwear and when I asked if I might borrow a t-shirt, an early and timely gift was presented. The next day, soft and cozy owl slippers would be added for the pleasure of my feet! Besides the packages waiting to be opened under the tree in the morning, I had two preconceived ideas for the overnight stay. Bedtime has been a challenge of late for Sarah, age 2+, and I hoped to have something magical help that night go well. When the usual routine of story reading, vitamin popping, tooth care, and ring around the rosy (we did all fall down, stuffed Olaf with twiggy arms included) were done, I pulled out the first surprise. It was the bubble candle I had packed into a tall canister for protection and hiding. Into the nearby outlet it went, though it took longer for the bubble action to start than I expected. It was no less magical however, and the silhouettes of two little ones lying on my inflatable mattress directly in front of the red glass with teeny bubbles streaming upward to the top of the glass cylinder was freeze framed in my mind! Not a peep and off to sleep after that surprise! By morning, if one is to call 5:06am with total blackness outside morning, I had the wee ones in bed with me as they did the year before. As a stall tactic, I brought out another box, hidden from view until then. It contained a trinket for each of them. Jacks was a small wooden box about 2.5 square with a teeny diorama of a small boat which would ride the wave action of the seas if tiny fingers would turn the little crankshaft on the outside. He got it immediately and deemed it cool like many other things on a given day in the life of this 5.5 yr old! Sarahs was a small music box similar in size and also with a crankshaft. When that was turned, the little metal spikes played out a pingy version of Jingle Bells, much to her delight! Dexterity for that delicate task in a clockwise only direction was a bit beyond those itty bitty fingers, but she liked it and it probably bought us a whole 7 minutes! Next, parents were awakened and stairs were descended to confirm that long awaited delivery. Daylight wasnt due for quite some time, but the magic unfolded and wrapping paper was strewn about while happy little ones squealed and I realized I have seen a lot of Christmas mornings but none so precious as the one that just dawned.
