Monthly Glaucoma Eye Injections May Replace Twice-Daily Eye Drops For Glaucoma Treatment. The Wall Street Journal (8/5, Lukits, Subscription Publication) reports on a developing technique for administering medication for glaucoma involving an injection directly in the eye once per month of a slow-release drug. This may one day replace the twice-daily regimen of eye drops. A study conducted on rabbits found that eye pressure dropped 21.4% with the injections, compared with 19.9% drop for rabbits treated with eye drops. The National Eye Institute estimates that 2.7 million Americans are affected by glaucoma.
