More on the Dolphins; Government is much more than the few - TopicsExpress

More on the Dolphins; Government is much more than the few politicians we hear from all the time. It presents a very chaotic message to the outside when the affairs of the country are being handles so irresponsibly. Every issue raised is turned into a charade, and confrontation between the Governor; “a battle of miss trust.” We must be aware that the business of government must rise above scandal! There are actual rule that apply, consent by advice is a principle mechanism in government. In fact the decisions of Government must be based the requisite internal advice. The issue before us is important to the country. It is the right of the government to act, but act responsibly, and the constitutional position of the Governor bears weight on Anguilla while we pretend it doesn’t. Matters of importance to the island must follow procedure and process. It is not HIM against US! When all is being analyzed, it must show for for the record. Our commonsense might not agree, but government functions by documented facts. The appeal of the Dolphins project is apparently challenged by Government’s departments and the country’s civil liberty groups. They must be heard. The various government departments have issue with its setting, location and impact on that environment. This is a right! And this is the responsibility of these departments and those who manage our environment, such as “The National Trust.” These are the responsible groups to issue a challenge. Meanwhile it is the responsibility of government to make decisions based on advice, and the best decision is made according to the advice given. These are statutory bodies, but government seems to only accept their advice when it becomes convenient to them. If such advice is not followed and a calamity of sorts was to incur, persons must be held responsible. Most of us understand this, and if our politicians fail to govern along these lines they themselves are in violation of the process. We blow everything out of proportion. The elected Government must keep the country running and provide jobs for the people; it is not the responsibility of these groups to stimulate economic growth. Everything is a hot issue with this Governor, because it appears that he is a man of procedure, and a man of the law. Our politicians play on people’s emotion; this is wrong. The great battle of our time between the Governor and the Chief Minister is “Bad Government!” The Governor answers to FCO and by demand he must follow the rule of law! Our politicians answer to no one. It is the duty of the departments of government to follow procedure, and follow the Law as well. Listening to the Thursday night talk show, the level of disrespect and low skill communication on the issue by those who sit in office as responsible for the country was embarrassing. People listening abroad would indeed underrate our civility. The name calling, the descriptive analogies, all of it brought a sense of inappropriate occupation of such high positions. One caller to the program put it just right, The Government is not handling its business right! And he was also criticized. Unless those who occupy official space become more appropriate with their language and speak suitably as representatives, chaos will continue to ensue on Anguilla in everything that is deemed “the people’s Business.” Both arms of Government must respect themselves, and show respect for the country. We all support the Dolphin’s project; it is assisting the island in very hard times. The problem we have now is how government handles its business. This is a very poor example! Speak Truth to Power!!!
