Movie Review of “God’s Not Dead” I was not that crazy about - TopicsExpress

Movie Review of “God’s Not Dead” I was not that crazy about this movie. Though I liked the courage and some of the arguments of the college freshman that defended God in the classroom, I felt too much of the movie was ‘cheesy.’ Many will come away saying, “That was just not realistic.” I will mention these unrealistic parts without ruining the movie if you haven’t seen it: the professor making his class sign the statement; 99% of the class voting in a certain way; some of the reactions of the “girlfriends”; the quick change in the reporter with cancer; the car not starting and then starting, the professor’s reaction to the final argument; and then to top it off, the “deathbed (or deathroad) conversion.” Furthermore, I think it unnecessary and unwise to have the Muslim father respond the way he did to his daughter. This is only going to be inflammatory toward the Muslim community. And it wasn’t necessary in showing the cost one may go through in following Christ. With all of that said, perhaps this movie will cause some to explore the intellectual arguments for the Christian faith and read material from Lee Strobel, Ravi Zacharias, Josh McDowell, and others. The movie does display that one doesn’t have to throw his/her mind out the window to be a follower of Jesus. God uses many imperfect things to bring people to Christ, and that is my prayer for this movie. However, if I had a choice, I would take a friend to the movie “Son of God,” and discuss it.
