Much as thea Oldest Liberation Movement in Africa is Turning 103 - TopicsExpress

Much as thea Oldest Liberation Movement in Africa is Turning 103 years, cdes from different ideological background will ceretainly assert their visionary ideas of this gigantic movement. Cde Walter Sisulu teaches us that ANC is a broad and tolerant organisation, firmly wedded to democratic principles and refusing to impose any single ideology upon its members. Butr at the same time ANC is not a merely debating society and cannot tolerate open subotage of its society. Therefore as lesson to ourselves, amidst the allegations of tensions, conflicts, splits and differences within the tripartite alliance, we need to cast a spotlight on the issue of factionalism and its implications for party politics, political disciplene and social change. We need to ask ousrselves as to what should be expected from a huge institution like the ANC which deals with huge resources, political power and socio-economic prestige? It has been historicaly said that difference of views does not constitute factionalism. We need to evaluate the current differences of political nature historically. Our political, social and cultural traditions under which the ANC has developed are critically important in analysing present day tensions within tripartite alliance. We must strive for the ANC that gives a space for democratic centralism, political tolerance and space for free and candid debate within the Alliance structures but subject to political discipline of our cadres and matrity of leaders across our alliance.
