Musical question for you: to what music (artist(s), song(s)) do you turn to when you want comfort music? Ill define that as something familiar that makes you feel good, or secure, or kind, or inspired, etc. And what is it about that music that brings these feelings to you? I will start with Coltranes My Favorite Things, which has a lot of history and meaning for me, as well as it being one of the most spiritual performances I have ever heard; and then add Mark Murphy, singing almost anything. That goes back to buying Rah for 39 cents as a kid (mono), seeing him a dozen times over the years, and always being knocked out by his adventurous nature, phrasing, sense of fun and playfulness, and more, and the familiarity (in a good way) of so much of his catalog. I could go on, as Terry Gibbs Big Band, Gerald Wilson, Horace Silver...
