#MusicalInterlude “N’Kosi Sikeleli” is the South African national anthem. This version was featured in the show Invictus. It tells of how Nelson Mandela fought to unite the nation torn by apartheid. “Apartheid” is the systematic and lawful racial discrimination enforced by the white minority. Apartheid sparked massive internal resistance and violence, and was ended when the last white President, Frederik Willem de Klerk began negotiations to end it. This saw a series of repeals of apartheid laws and culminated in multi-racial democratic elections in 1994 which saw Mandela thrusted into power after imprisonment of close to 30 years.
