My darling old girl has had a full life, and tonight I think she will leave me to be with Bailey. She is not in any pain and is resting on her bed with Cooper and Toby laying nearby. They seem to sense something is not right and keep checking on her. Sassy meows nearby and comes over now and again for a look while I sit here thinking of the 10 years I have shared with this old girl and how my life wont be the same without her. I dont want to disturb her, she is resting peacefully and she is home surrounded by familiar noises and smells. I hope I have that luxury when it is my time. Earlier this evening, Taylor laid down beside her and she put her paw in his hand and just stared at him, before going back to sleep...each time he moved she would open her eyes briefly as if to ask him to stay. This is so hard for him, he has been the loving replacement for the Master that left her behind 3 years ago. Kel has always been a mans dog...I have just been her caregiver, the one that brings her food, bathes her. She has struggled for some time in getting about, her joints are stiff and this winter has been hard on her. In the last few weeks since Cooper arrived she has been more mobile than Ive seen her in ages but now she cant get up at all. She was laying on the concrete at the garage door when I got home and try as she might, she couldnt get up to greet me. We carried her to her bed and thats where she lays now. We managed to get her to have a drink and she had a couple of biscuits but her breathing has become laboured. Those of you that know Kelly will remember, as I always will, the chubby old redhead that just wanted a pat, a rub under the chin, slept in the sun all day, and loved nothing more than to ride in the ute and eat. Its going to be a long night.
