My daughter is 3 years old. She is a delightful little girl who is quite intelligent and articulate for her age. Over the past few months a few things have started to concern me: she has become sensitive to loud noises; getting dressed is a big ordeal most days - clothing has to feel and look a certain way; she is a very picky eater, gags and is reluctant to try new foods; she becomes very distressed if she has the slightest little scratch and cant bear to look at it until its completely disappeared; she also becomes distressed if her clothes or hands are dirty; she also hates having her hair brushed; sometimes she hates being touched or held when trying to comfort her. Many friends and family members have described her behavior and need to have things ordered in her own particular way as ocd and I am afraid this labelling might stick. I am unsure if these are just normal behaviors for her age or if it could be something else that should be explored by our health nurse, GP or pediatrician. Pinky says: Although some of this behaviour is within a normal range, it must be confusing for you, especially when others are suggesting there is something wrong and labelling your little girl. It would be helpful to get a GP referral to see a child psychologist. This would give you strategies to help your little one through her fears and reassurance for you. They are lovely with children and play games to get to know them - nothing confronting for you or your child.
