My grandmother, Gladys Oneill-Brown, has transitioned over to the other side today... She lived 91 years, worked hard and was a stern woman, not very big on displaying any emotion. Its a weird feeling for me because I cant say that she was close to me. She didnt really seem like she had much patience for people over the age of 8. Lol. I could be wrong though... smh. B-) I remember the last time I spoke to her I said I love you Granma her response was mmm hmm. I never really decided if her lack of affection bothered me. Consciously, I think probly not Subconsciously, I think probly so. But what I do know is that if I am blessed to see my daughter have kids, I want them to think Im the most awesome and loving granddad ever. While I do wish my grandmother had been more externally loving, I also believe that she came up in tough times and she was a survivor and a fighter and became a product of her conditioning. She definitely passed that to my mother who is super strong. Well... Its been a long day filled with work and thought. Ill think some more, Im sure, before I go to sleep. One thing I feel confident of... I am sure that my grandmother lived the best way she understood. I will remember how much fun I had with her as a small child and be grateful for those memories. I will celebrate the strength she always showed and pray that her transcendence is a peaceful journey. She has earned her rest. Rest well Granma. May you now know love eternally. Hotep.
