My main concern with all of this is based in the multiple transitions that will need to occur. In some grades there will be up to 3-4 transitions back and forth from one school to another and into middle/HS. The 5 th graders at Bellevue will transition to Avalon for one year to then transition a year later to the M/HS. The Avalon 2nd graders will go from A to B for one year back to A and then up the m/HS. Everything I have read thus far encourages limiting transitions. Research shows that achievement is lost with each transition and could take a year to regain,if they are transitioning again in that year what effect will that have? Does the district have plans to hire extra counselors to guide students during this process? Studies suggest a drop in self esteem,rise in stress and anxiety, and drop in school involvement from both students and parents.
