My mothers sister, Phyllis Barish, passed away last night after - TopicsExpress

My mothers sister, Phyllis Barish, passed away last night after nearly three months of suffering from multiple fractures due to a fall complicated by osteoporosis. Although she was 84 she really didnt seem elderly yet, aside from some weakness and frailty. I know only too well that those things arent necessarily age related and can happen at any time of life. I feel very fortunate to have spent some time with my Aunt Phyllis in September, as well as many other members of our extraordinary family, truly kind, caring, resourceful, loving and witty people. My cousin, Amy, was with her mother nearly every day, and Aunt Phylliss sisters took turns being by her side, too, rarely leaving her alone. Her son flew in several times to see her, and I imagine there isnt anyone with a finer support system than Aunt Phyllis had. Im in another country and wont be able to attend either of the memorial services. I think my family knows how much Im thinking of them with love, and how glad I am that I got to spend time with my aunt during her first couple of weeks in hospice. She seemed a bit confused about my being there, not realizing that my hasty trip was on her behalf. The medication had her foggy and she was uncomfortable and in a great deal of pain, though generally upbeat and still hoping to go home at that point. Perhaps thats what kept her going all this time. She was a tough broad--we all are, without exception--a real survivor. Since I heard the news last night Ive been thinking of what I want to say about my aunt, and theres so much more that could be said about a beloved relative whos been a part of my life for the past 57 years. I guess the actions of Aunt Phylliss sisters, children, neices and nephews are the best testament to the example she was for all of us, having been the oldest. She will be missed, remembered fondly by many, always with love and respect.
