My name is Popper. I am a young boy of about 3 years of age and I have known a lot of suffering in my short life so far. I was born a street dog, here on the island of Phuket, in Thailand. This meant I had to learn to look after myself; I had no owner to do it for me. I had to hunt for food every day and learn to stay away from busy roads where I might be hit by a car. I managed okay but it all went wrong the day I was attacked with a machete. I had a very nasty and painful wound on my head and it got worse every day. Before long, it was very badly infected and the pain was unbearable. I really thought my short life might be over soon, but then I was picked up by a man called Khun Sanae. He is an Animal Rescue Officer with Soi Dog, and he took me to the shelter. Since being here, I have received more care and love than I have in my three years of surviving on the streets. The vets cleaned and treated my wound every day and when they found a tumour at the site of the wound, they did something called surgery to remove it. I am so much happier now, but I still think of all the other animals that need help. YOU can be the one who helps them, by joining a group called the Emergency Response Team. This is a group of Soi Dog supporters whose donations meant I could be picked up off the street and helped.
