My thread in one of the forums at Security Jam, Brainstorming Global Security organized by NATO: NATO Afghan Mission, success and challenges 4:29 PM AST October 15, 2014 NATO is a well known security entity here in Afghanistan. After the fall of Taliban regime in 2001, Afghans wanted to have a new era of partnership with worlds strongest nations. Afghans are now proud of being a global partner of NATO. Afghans have been fighting Taliban terrorists groups since many years now along with NATO forces, which this itself has been one the greatest experiences of Afghans in this part of the world where in the past, only thinking about NATO forces in the ground was kind of unbelievable. The greatest success story of NATO at the present times is defeating the Taliban, one of the most brutal regimes on earth with strong ties and affiliations with Al-Qaeeda. We all know what they did to world security in Sep 2001, and that is why they were punished in a very coordinated approach by NATO member countries as it is in their mandate. Taliban by regime are gone, but they are still operating in big and small groups in Afghanistan and has strong training and support bases in Pakistan. Their leaders are based in Quetta and Peshawar of Pakistan and they have free space to breed and ally themselves with brutal groups like ISIL. Taliban did not wait to express allegiance to ISIL, and they are still the biggest threat for worlds security. That is why NATO should continue to focus on how collectively can tackle the root cause of Talibanism, or having these elements in this part of the world can be tolerated!!!. NATO should continue to revise its focus on how to combat global terrorism, how to block financial aides to these terror groups and how to support its allies in the region to achieve to succeed fighting terrorism. NATO should stand united as it did 13 years ago coming to Afghanistan to dismantle the Taliban regime and continue to provide support to its partners when it comes to combatting terrorism. NATO should strongly force political actors in the region to fight the ideology of terrorism and make sure states are held responsible for their behaviors which have led to the creation of terrorism or terrorists groups used as proxies to advance their agendas. Afghans have shown resolve to be a strong partner and have endured massive sacrifices against terrorism in the past 13 years, not only for the security of Afghanistan, but for the security of region and behind. Countries that are strongly committed to fight against terrorism should be awarded with more assistance in the military sector and should be brought closer the global concept of partnership.
