NAME: Wendy Darlene Davis, 44 WHERE: MESA, Arizona CRIME: Arrested for failing to provide medical care for her female pit bull mix SHELBY that was found severely malnourished and suffering from other ailments - said to be blind in both eyes, diabetic and had other unidentified ailments Sheriffs detectives arrested Wendy Darlene Davis, 44, at a home in east Mesa on Wednesday. She was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of animal cruelty. Her female pit bull mix, Shelby, was said to be blind in both eyes, diabetic and had other unidentified ailments, according to the sheriffs office. Shelby was scheduled to be euthanized, however, sheriffs officials said she is making a fighting attempt to live and may make a full recovery in the hands of a loving adopter. Detectives said Davis admitted that she had never taken Shelby to a veterinarian for treatment and admitted that she knew that the dog was suffering. Its unfortunate that my office has to investigate and arrest violators who abuse animals, especially recently, with all the abuse of dog cases we have had, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
