NEWS RELEASE NRVCC- 001 October 10, 2014 SCOTT ANDERSON SEEKS SEAT ON VERNON CITY COUNCIL VERNON— Scott Anderson announced today that he will be seeking a seat on Vernon City Council. Anderson is a long-time Vernon resident, business owner, and commissioned officer in the Canadian Forces Reserves. He has an Honours Degree (First Class) in Political Studies, and graduate work in Strategic Studies. He owns a corporate communications business that serves North America, UK, and Australia. He sits on several boards and committees at all three levels of government and is a member of the Silver Star Rotary Club, Vernon Chamber of Commerce Policy Committee, and Toastmasters. Building a business-friendly environment, common sense spending and seeking more input from everyday citizens are Andersons primary interests. We absolutely need to revitalize the business environment in Vernon, said Anderson. Its not just a matter of streamlining city regulations - although that is crucial - it will also require provincial and federal cooperation on such things as transportation. Anderson has extensive experience in politics at all three levels of government. He has served as a campaign manager in two federal elections, a Legislative Assistant for an MP in Ottawa, has run as a candidate in the last provincial election, and holds senior appointments on the provincial level. He has also been involved in Vernon City issues for years and currently sits on the Vernon Advisory Committee. City infrastructure is degrading and we need to focus on repairing it, said Anderson. Im also deeply concerned about a perceived inability of citizens to make their voices heard by Council. As Councilor I plan to actively seek out input from citizens on major issues, and to bring those forward to Council. Anderson prides himself on an understanding of people from all walks of life. He grew up in India, owned and operated a construction company for 10 years prior to entering university, and has worked in a steel mill, on a farm, and as a roughneck on an oil rig. He currently maintains a small local recycling business in addition to his work in corporate communications and understands the need to be able to connect with people no matter who they are, where they are from, and what they do.
