NOVEMBER SNOW MOON BLESSINGS Pagans have been celebrating the full moon for centuries. And, each full moon has its own significance. This include the full moon during the month of November. The November full moon is called the snow moon. This moon heralds the beginning of the dark months of the year. It is also a signal to Mother Earth that it is time for her to take well earned rest. She is exhausted from the process of planting, growing, and harvesting and needs some sleep to recover, so she can do it all again next year. And so, the Earth Mother settles in for a nap with the snow falling onto her as a blanket. Many animals will take this opportunity to rest, as well. Because it is a time of rest for many, the Snow moon is a wonderful time for dreamwork. The restful and peaceful energies of this time of year will be easily directed to meditation, divination, and endings. It is also a good time for setting new goals and planning new additions and projects in your life. The colors that should be used for this celebration are black, navy blue and purple. These colors remind us of the sleeping earth. To symbolize sleep, your altar cover should be a sheet or blanket, maybe even a quilt or comforter. Decorate with potatoes, onions, garlic, turnips and other vegetables that grow beneath the ground. Use dark blue or purple candles. And, mugwort or patchouli are appropriate incenses to be used for this ritual. For libations, you can serve wine and sugar cookies, or you might want milk with your cookies as an appropriate before bed snack. Your circle can be closed with a lullaby to the Earth. For your centerpiece, make a bed out of a showbox. Be sure to include a small pillow and blanket. On the bed place a small globe under the covers. As a group project, each person can bring squares of fabric and small quantities of dream herbs. Good choices for this would be chamomile, mugwort, rosemary, lavender, poppy seed or rose petals. You might also try a combination of these. Provide needles and thread for everyone to make a dream pillow with their supplies. If you would like to include party favors, try glow in the dark stars and moons. Or you might also find small globes. Each full moon celebration should be unique to the time of the year the moon appears. This will make your rituals more fun and memorable. Hopefully, these ideas will get you started on putting together a lovely full moon celebration.
