NW side Neighborhood Advisory Council update: Charter operator - TopicsExpress

NW side Neighborhood Advisory Council update: Charter operator interview Week 6.5 ish: We had about 22 participants in attendance, not including CPS officials and the NAC facilitator and assistants. Elected officials present were Alderman Nicholas Sposato of the 36th Ward and Alderman John Arena of the 45th Ward. Also present was Jose from the office of Cook County Commissioner Edwin Reyes. Tonight we met at Portage Park to interview members of the board of Intrinsic and Noble School. We got answers for many of our concerns but not necessarily solutions for them. We brought up various issues related to police presence and resources for the Noble school, traffic along Grand, and an alternative location proposed by the State Rep (to which they got caught up in a lie i believe). We also spent a significant amount of time discussing Emma Mitts desire to have the attendance boundaries set identical to the boundaries of the 37th Ward (definitely not Belmont-Cragin) Though Noble said that they dont control attendance boundaries themselves. At the end of the meeting, we discussed the location of the Belmont-Cragin location. CPS official John (last name escapes my mind) and Emily said that we cant hold the community meeting at Prosser High School even though none of the written rules forbid it and even though the NAC voted on it and submitted that request in writing. This caused lots of upset faces in the NAC but was not a surprise. So we decided to have a church near Long and Diversey host us on the 11th of December from 6:30 pm til 9:30. The NAC is in charge of spreading the word in the neighborhoods but we welcome any volunteers that would like to help distribute flyers. Ill post up the exact address to the church once we get confirmation tomorrow. Thank you to Nick Sposato and John Arena and Edwin Reyess representative for being present. They stayed for the entire 3 hours from start to ending and added valuable information to the discussion as did all the other NAC members.
