NationalMirror Senate confirms Kekere-Ekun Supreme Court Justice GEORGE OJI June 27, 2013 •Akinkuotu as NCAA DG The Senate yesterday confirmed Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere- Ekun as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Her confirmation followed the recommendation by the Senator Umaru Dahiru-led Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters that she be confirmed as a justice of the apex court after she had passed the screening of the committee. The elevation of Kekere- Ekun (Lagos, South-West) brings to five the number of female justices in the Supreme Court. Senate President, David Mark, while congratulating Her Lordship, described her appointment as a welcome development. Leader of the Senate, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, who also commented along the same line, described the appointment as well deserved. He urged women in the country to also extend similar achievements in other spheres of the nation’s political live. In his remarks, Mark said; “It is a welcome development for the Supreme Court and I think emphasis should be on merit and not on gender. I am sure we can find qualified Nigerians from all the geo-political zones in the country, but should not be at the expense of merit.” Also yesterday, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Captain Fola Akinkuotu as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA. The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the screening of Akinkuotu by the Senate Committee on Aviation headed by Senator Hope Uzodinma, Imo East. Mark, in a brief remark after the confirmation, observed that the aviation sector is one with a lot of problems. He urged Captain Akinkuotu to bring the wealth of his experiences to bear in making Nigeria’s air space safer.
