Natural gas may not be of much use as a “bridge” fuel a low greenhouse gas future unless its use is accompanied by rigorous policies aimed at curbing emissions, according to a new report. While burning natural gas is in some ways cleaner than burning coal, natural gas can also undermine even cleaner, renewable sources of energy, such as wind and solar, by competing them economically.
