Navy’s Mallikulam community projects praised by Christians The handing over ceremony of 26 newly-constructed houses to the resettled families in Mullikulum took place last Tuesday with the participation of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The houses have been constructed by the Sri Lanka Navy under the guidance of the Defence Ministry. Mannar Bishop Rev Fr. Rayappu Joseph, Sri Lanka Navy Commander Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Navy Seva Vanitha Unit President Srima Colombage and Commander, North Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Dayananda Nanayakkara and several other dignitaries were present at the event. Concurrently, with the handing over of the houses, ten fishing boats were also donated to those engaged in fishing with a view to assist the livelihood development of resettled families. The fully renovated Church of Our Lady of Assumption in Mullikulum was also declared open by the Defence Secretary along with the newly-constructed Priest’s House to coincide with the day’s events.
