News Item of the Week: The American Society of Addiction Medicine - TopicsExpress

News Item of the Week: The American Society of Addiction Medicine convened a groundbreaking group in Washington DC on June 20, 2013 to provide a comprehensive analysis of how Medication Assisted Treatment for opioid addiction is being reimbursed through third party insurance coverage in the United States. The focus of the report is how Medicaid currently reimburses the use of such medications (methadone, buprenorphine, and Naltrexone/Vivitrol) to treat chronic opioid addiction. It also provides information on how commercial lines of insurance reimburse such treatment interventions. A comprehensive report was prepared by the Avisa Group and TRI, which supported ASAM’s initiatives in this area. AATOD and other national groups will continue to work with ASAM on such initiatives, especially in preparation for the implementation of Health Care Reform during January 2014. We are grateful to ASAM and its leadership for taking on such a critical and complex initiative. We will also continue to work with our colleagues in the Coalition for Whole Health and the Legal Action Center as we prepare our field for the implementation for Health Care Reform. medpagetoday/Psychiatry/Addictions/40012?xid=nl_mpt_DHE_2013-06-21&utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=DailyHeadlines&utm_source=WC&eun=g677324d0r&userid=677324&email=pmills@asam.org&mu_id=5843896
